Reliable car dock for Evo 3D is very handy

Although I do sometimes use my phone while driving, I only do so handsfree. When I say `handsfree', I mean that I use a headset at all times and I also keep the phone on a windshield mount so I'm not fumbling to find it to dial or to answer a call. With a hefty investment in my HTC EVO 3D 4G Android Phone, Black (Sprint), it is extremely important to me that the windshield mount fasten securely and not fall. Not only is falling bad for the device, but if it falls while driving, it is a dangerous distraction.

I previously purchased HTC's car mount, HTC Car Upgrade Kit For HTC EVO 3D. I liked the look of it - it was smaller, a bit sexier in the design and I really liked that it was made specifically for my phone by the manufacturer of that phone. Unfortunately, it was a dismal failure. The HTC mount won't stay attached to the windshield for more than ten minutes, even with the car completely still and the engine turned off.

So I began looking for a new one. A better one. A STABLE one. That search led me to the Seidio Innotraveler Car Kit for HTC EVO 3D. I had looked at this one previously, yet passed it over for the HTC version. This time, I ordered it.

When I took it out of the box, I could already tell it was better. Unlike the HTC mount, the Seidio mount has that reliable clamp at the base of the suction cup that usually means the holder is going to stay put until you purposely take it down. Sure enough, that proved true once I attached it to my windshield. Although slightly larger than HTC's competing product, the stability of the Seidio mount makes up for the difference in size.

Like the HTC mount, the Seidio mount automatically puts the Evo 3D in car mode when the phone is docked in it. This puts shortcuts to just those items you need while driving at your fingertips: navigation shortcuts, phone dialer, etc.

The base of the Seidio mount has a plug for a charger and the mount comes with a charger that fits the car cigarette lighter plug. This fits very securely and makes for a quick insertion of the phone when you get in the car. Instead of having to wrangle with both the dock and then plugging a cable into the phone, you simply insert the phone in the dock, which already is plugged in. Voila!

Since I got the Seidio car dock, it hasn't fallen at all and I don't believe it will. However, it is simple to remove when I want to and just as easy to put back in the windshield.

It also comes with a round disk that you can attach elsewhere in the car, like your dash, and it allows you to use the suction cup there instead of the windshield.

The mount comes with a removable insert. With the insert in, it fits the standard Evo 3D. With the insert removed, it will fit the Evo 3D in a number of cases. I don't have a case on my phone, so I use it with the insert.

Although most people will want to use the dock in landscape mode, the mount swivels around so that you can also view it in portrait view. A holder on the top of the phone keeps it securely in the mount no matter which orientation you have chosen.

I am very happy with this car dock so far and would definitely recommend it to anyone with an HTC Evo 3D phone.
